LYDGATE VIADUCT

Client: Network Rail

Principal Contractor: J Murphy & Sons Limited (Rail Division)

Designer: Network Rail

ROPETECH’s Role: Specialist Masonry Repair Subcontractor

Location: Lancashire

Contract Period: April 2017 – Ongoing

As part of our ongoing geotechnical framework agreement ROPETECH were engaged by J Murphy and Sons to undertake pinning and grouting works, re-casing and re-pointing of brickwork to an historic viaduct.

ROPETECH’s work scope included:

  • Undertaking of all brickwork repairs of varying types over an area of 650m2.
  • Clearance of all vegetation within 3 meters of structure.

ROPETECH’s method of working:

Due to the nature of the site ROPTECH opted to use a variety of access techniques, predominantly in the form of a MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) where this wasn’t feasible due to limited access we opted for Roped Access and Scaffold towers.

Main Challenges and solutions of the project:

Due to having to undertake works on the parapet wall three line possessions where required to finish the works, these were undertaken between the hours of 23:00 to 06:00am to limit the inconvenience to rail passengers.

Summary:

All of ROPETECH’s work was completed safely, within budget and within the programme duration. By working closely with the Principal Contractor and resolving potential issues at site level there were zero variations raised.
