Client: Network Rail

Principal Contractor: Story Contracting (Rail Division)

Designer: Network Rail

ROPETECH’s Role: Specialist Masonry Repair Subcontractor

Location: Cumbria

Contract Period: August 2017 – June 2018

As part of our ongoing relationship with Story Contracting, ROPETECH access solutions were contracted to undertake re-casing and re-pointing of brickwork to a rail bridge crossing the river Cherwell.

ROPETECH’s work scope included:

  • Undertaking of re-casing works to 30% of all Soffits.
  • Undertaking coring samples for Engineers
  • Clearance of all vegetation within 3 meters of structure.

ROPETECH’s method of working:

ROPETECH mobilised a team of five operatives to undertake the works at this location, due to no access constraints we could work from MEWP and roped access techniques.

Main Challenges and solutions of the project:

  • Due to the Briggle Beck running directly through span 5, ROPETECH installed a safety net to catch any debris and waste from contaminating the water course. This ensured that when works were to commence within this area the Environment Agency issued a permit to work with minimal fuss.

Summary: All of ROPETECH’s work was completed safely, within budget and within the programme duration. By working closely with the Principal Contractor and resolving potential issues at site level there were zero variations raised.

“On behalf of NwR IP, I would like to thank the SCL site team for their site management of the works throughout. The compound established from the start (Sept 17) was kept safe and maintained the very highest of welfare and plant/labour segregation standards. SCL’s Subcontractor Rope Tech was without doubt the right choice for the 7 arch span Viaduct repairs, bringing invaluable expertise and experience to a challenging scheme. This partnership resulted in Br 296 being repaired to a high standard, remedial free scheme which will provide safe passage to trains on the SAC for years before the next intervention.”
